Venetian Plaster Melbourne

Paint is cheaper, faster and easy to change, and for ceilings and back bedrooms that is the right call. Venetian plaster is a different decision. You are buying a surface with real depth, tougher than paint film, better with knocks and marks, and good for decades when applied and sealed correctly.

The trade-off is commitment: it takes longer, costs more per square metre, and painting over it later means losing what you paid for. Most clients choose it for the one or two rooms that matter and paint the rest.

Colour goes through the material rather than on top of it, so the shade sits inside the wall with all the natural variation that brings, from warm limestones and off-whites to deep charcoals and greens.

Sheen depends on how hard the final coats are burnished and whether a wax or sealer goes over the top, so one colour can look chalky and matte or almost mirror-like. Because screens lie about colour, we make sample boards and leave them with you to judge in your own light.

We look at the actual walls, talk through Marmorino, Grassello or Travertino, and make sample boards in your colour.

We protect the space, repair and flatten the substrate, then prime it so the finish has something honest to sit on.

Coats go on by hand over a few days, the final pass is polished up, then sealed or waxed where needed.

Venetian is not the only decorative system we run. We also work with Dulux Acratex texture coatings for exterior walls and rendered facades, Rockcote Cerano for a soft contemporary interior texture, and Rockcote concrete finish for that raw, off-form concrete look without the concrete.

If you like the seamless idea but want it underfoot, microcement using the X-Bond system covers floors, walls and benchtops, straight over existing tiles.

We quote on the walls in front of us, because the honest drivers of cost are the finish you choose, the number of coats, the condition of the existing surface, ceiling height and access, the area, and whether it needs sealing for a wet room.

Grassello costs more than Marmorino because it takes more passes, and a tidy new wall costs less than a patched-up 1920s one. Quoting a rate blind only leads to a variation later.
